When I first started marketing links for this site, I was very excited about the ability to submit my rss feed to a site and have it link to mine. Well, I’ve lost that spark. Why? Well from what I can tell, out of all the sites I’ve submitted my feed, I’m barely receiving any traffic. In fact, what I’m finding is that these sites are getting traffic that my site should get.

So, the question now is, why should I submit my rss feed to a site? Honestly, I don’t know. I have submitted my site to the Google’s blog Search (blogsearch.google.com), but that’s it. All of the other sites seemed to have absorbed my RSS feed and are now using it for their own traffic and content. So, those days are over.

So, my advice. Maybe only submit to Google’s Blog search. Otherwise, prepare to have your site beat in the searches by your OWN content on someone else’s site!

Ok, so, I started a new blog today on blogger.com. After putting up several posts, I figured I’d register it with YouSayToo. I don’t know why, but YouSayToo is producing more links than any other RSS Feed. So, I went to the sign up screen, and instead of choosing the regular text link, I chose the graphic. I posted this in my HTML template and it caused the error:

Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The element type “img” must be terminated by the matching end-tag “”.

I looked at it closely. Essentially, there is an img tag in the text, I simply added the / into the tag so it resembled . Well, that worked for Blogger/Blogspot, but it didn’t work for YouSayToo. So, back to adding the text link which is at the bottom of my posts.

Happy Holidays.

After starting to learn more about affiliate marketing, I ran across MarketLeverage.com after cruising some of the forums. Had heard some good things as well. So, I signed up to see what they had to offer. I signed up late at night Sunday and Monday, they called me and sent an email.

I followed up with Katryna at Market Leverage. Pleasure to speak with her, very helpful. She asked me a couple of questions, had to make sure I was legit. After about 2 minutes of talking she gave me some hints on which affiliate programs were working for their publishers. Wow, I’ve only been talking to them for a couple of minutes and I’m learing something. She signed me up guided me through some of the next steps and followed up with an email detailing my publisher contact. Pretty cool. Awesome experience, professional, to the point, and knowledgeable.

Tonight, I signed into the site and looked around. They have some pretty good programs. The payouts are high, try $42 high. I’m sold, contacting my publisher contact tomorrow to check out any more tips.

Had a little more time and investigated them a little more. Well, found out, they have MarketLeverageTV for their publishers. The videos are excellent. Each video gives some highlights of new vendors and a recap of the latest news. Feels like I have my own station. Anyone looking to just learn about affiliate marketing would enjoy them just for the content.

So, experience is top notch. I’d definitely sign up, high payouts, and some pretty good vendors. Click Click Here to sign up with MarketLeverage.

So, the deal is, to get more visitors to your site, you have to have more links to your site. Well, this is extremely time consuming. So, I went out looking for a plugin that would help me do this. Looking around, I found OnlyWire. OnlyWire allows me to submit my posts to several accounts each time I publish an article. I find this extremely helpful.

In order to get it running on WordPress, I had to install the OnlyWire Multi Autosubmitter. Then, I had to add a link to OnlyWire to my site. Have OnlyWire verify it and I was up and running. Granted, you don’t have to do this if you want the paid version. I can stand one more link for free services.

One good thing about OnlyWire is that I was alerted to several other feed networks I haven’t been using. So, a lot of my time with OnlyWire was actually signing up for these other services.

Also, in case you’ve been following my most recent posts, the changes made here have produced some good results. Granted, this isn’t the most popular site on the internet, but here are some results after one week of changes.

When writing an article, it may come easy or hard. I find it pretty easy once I get the first sentence. But, if you want your web page to be found on the internet, you have to do a little bit more. I know some of what I’m going to say may sound pretty obvious, but somehow I forgot these simple things. So, here goes:

Use Header tags

Structure your page with different sections. For example use the h1, h2, h3 tags. This tells search engines a little bit more about your page and what are the important aspects of your page. So, add these before different sections.

Use descriptive links

Whenever you’re creating a link somewhere, don’t have the hyperlink text say “Click here”. Instead, make it state what the link is about. It may seem hard at first. At least it is for me, so I’ll make 2. In the sentence I’m writing, I’ll describe where the link will take them (make that a hyperlink) and then make a click here hyperlink. For example, If you want to know more about part time webmasters, click here.

Get the point across in the first 2 sentences

Most people won’t read beyond the first 2 sentences. So, get the point across and capture their attention. If the person is interested, they’ll read on or click somewhere else. As a matter of fact, that’s a pretty good concept. If someone isn’t interested immediately, give them something else to click on… hmm that should drum up some ideas.

Keep the minimum word count to at least 250

A lot of people say to keep it even longer. But, sometimes, I just don’t feel like writing an entire document and just want to send out a tip. But, the more text you have the better off you are.

A legitimate list of sites where you can submit your blogs RSS feeds

Ok, I’ve been told that in order to get my website noticed, I have to submit my feed to RSS engines. So, the first thing I did was go out and find listings. Wow, there are tons of listings. But, from what I’ve found, a lot of them are not correct. Some work, some don’t, some are not free, don’t exist, or are sites designed for you to click around so someone can make PPC money from you. So, below is a list of the real sites available to submit your feeds to. If one doesn’t work, please let me know. I’ll keep it updated as I go!

Name: Millionrss Submit here Description: Free?: Yes

Ok, I’ve had this site for a while. Upon my first introduction to Adsense, I was pretty excited. I mean after all, I may make some money just because people are browsing my site. And, since this is a WordPress site, there are tons of ways to integrate Google Adsense ads easily.

Recently, I ran across affiliate marketing. For those of you that don’t know, affiliate marketing can work similar to Adsense, except instead of making money from someone clicking on a banner, you will make money from someone clicking on a banner, then buying something.

So, the first question you may think is, “With Adsense, I always make money, with an affiliate link I won’t.” This is true. But, I’ve looked at the money I’ve made through adsense and it doesn’t amount to more than $5 over a period of several months.

So, I thought wow, that’s pennies. Then it dawned on me. If just one person bought something (from links or images that look identical to Adsense ads) I would make that amount of money or even more with one sale.

So, today, I made the leap. I removed all Adsense ads from this site. Ok, I may be crazy. But, I figured it’s worth the chance.

So, the first thing I did before proceeding was figure out how I could do this easily with WordPress. And, to my smiling eyes, I found the Advertising Manager plugin.

So, how does the Advertising Manager plugin help? Well, I’ve added several of my affiliate links and banners to the plugin. It was an extremely easy process. And, I’ve set it up so they will rotate! So, they will function similar to Adsense. And the BIG bonus. I can customize which affiliate ads display with each post I write. Wow, focused ads on my own articles. Also, I had difficulty figuring out what to do. After I did it one time, everything was easy. Here are the instructions for Advertising Manager just in case

So, if you’re not doing this yet, consider it. I’ll keep you posted on how it works.

Did you know it is possible to point a domain name (website address) to your LinkedIn profile? For example, my profile can be found at http://www.linkedin.com/in/joebailey? So what right? Well, if I owned the domain name joebailey.com, or hirejoebailey.com, I could point it to my LinkedIn profile. And it would only take about 10 minutes from start to end.

How does this help me? Well, if you need to direct someone to your linked in profile, you could just give them your website address (domain name). It would be a lot easier. Also, you could set up an email address for that domain name as well. So, if anyone ever wanted to get in touch with you, they’d know your email address as well.

Here’s how to do it.

Go to JoesWebshack and purchase a domain name. It will be less than $10 a year, and it comes with an email address

Once purchased, log into your account if you haven’t already.

Now, click on the top or left navigation where it says “My Domain Names”

Now, you will see a list of your domain names. Click on the hyperlink of your domain name.

At the top of the page in the navigation, click on the “Forward”, then “Forward Domain” option

In the box, type in your LinkedIn address and press OK, and you’re finished!

Install WordPress for me? Someone to install WordPress? We can do that. Is anyone interested?

After setting up several Wordpress websites, it dawned on me, this can get technical, and it can get time consuming if you’re just learning how to use Wordpress. In addition, what if you’ve never had a website before, and you don’t know about hosting, or domain names, what do you do then?

Well, this post is just to see who’s out there, and if this is even a need. So, if you would like us to install Wordpress for you, let us know. You can respond to this thread or use the “Ask the Webmaster” option.

Initially, the package I was thinking about creating consists of the following:
1. Domain name
2. Hosting
3. Set up an email address with the potential to have more.
4. FTP Access
5. Wordpress installation
6. 5 standard plugins to be determined. Maybe the idea is we could let you choose from a list.

Requirements:
1. It would have to be on our hosting
2. You would have had to choose a domain name already.
3. You would have to pay up front, because the cost of domains and hosting are real costs.
4. We would need 24 hours to set it up.
5. Hosting questions would be directed through JoesWebshack.com.
6. WordPress questions would have to be posted on this site or elsewhere. This way, we could build a shared list of questions and help for everyone. In addition, there is so much to do with WordPress, we would be overwhelmed with the questions and would have to charge to answer questions.

Ad Blocker add ons for Firefox workaround to make revenue.

Today, I was notified that I had some malware. Not too excited about that. As it turns out, the easy way to block this in the Firefox browser was to add an Ad Blocker plugin to my browser. Sounds cool right. Well, just out of curiosity, I looked at my website and found out that all of my ads were blocked! Makes sense right.

Well, there’s one drawback. If I’m only using ads to make revenue from my site, I’m out of luck. So, what to do? Well, I’ve come to the conclusion that I should mix my ads with some links to affiliate programs. I know, this may seem obvious to some, but it wasn’t to me.

So, now, my next task is to add to my general template links to some affiliate sites. Otherwise, if all of the ads are blocked, I’m out of luck.
