When I first started marketing links for this site, I was very excited about the ability to submit my rss feed to a site and have it link to mine. Well, I’ve lost that spark. Why? Well from what I can tell, out of all the sites I’ve submitted my feed, I’m barely receiving any traffic. In fact, what I’m finding is that these sites are getting traffic that my site should get.
So, the question now is, why should I submit my rss feed to a site? Honestly, I don’t know. I have submitted my site to the Google’s blog Search (blogsearch.google.com), but that’s it. All of the other sites seemed to have absorbed my RSS feed and are now using it for their own traffic and content. So, those days are over.
So, my advice. Maybe only submit to Google’s Blog search. Otherwise, prepare to have your site beat in the searches by your OWN content on someone else’s site!
Ok, for years, I’ve programmed, run my own company, consulted, essentially tried every aspect of programming. What I’ve come to realize is that, as a programmer, there are mainly 2 ways to make more money. One, increase your hourly rate, or 2, work more hours. Well, I always like to go for option 1. But, there reaches a point where you plateau at a certain rate. So, what do you do next.
Well, I’ve been looking to find what I call a scalable option. What do I mean. Well, I’d like to build something once, then have it earn money for me over time, forever. Sounds cool right. Well, from what I can tell it does exist. But, I have to admit, I haven’t mastered it yet.
The key I’ve found that could be the answer is affiliate marketing. If structured correctly, this could be a one time setup and long term income. The cool thing is that the amount of technical knowledge necessary is low. After all, the programming to do the sites for an affiliate marketing campaign is simple HTML, so we could probably do this in our sleep now. So, the amount of new knowledge that must be gained comes in the form of tracking and analyzing statistics.
So, I went out looking for a solution. What I found immediately is that affiliate marketing courses cover all types of topics, Twitter, PPC, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, SEO, etc. In addition, the costs are all over the board, some high, some low. And, you don’t know which one to use. Why? Well, each one of the programs is trying to sell you. And of course they’re all making millions of dollars (at least that’s what they claim.)
Therefore, I set up a new site www.affiliatemarketingtop10.com. Why? Well, I wanted a site where I could and everyone else could compare, and review these programs. A solution for all of us that want to learn, but don’t want to spend a ton of cash trying to figure it out. So, if you’re interested in learning a little more, and seeing a comparison, check it out. I’ve been having difficulty trying to figure out how the entire affiliate marketing thing works. It takes a lot of time, there are no shortcuts. But, every time I’m spending an hour or so trying to get a couple more links or write an article, I think to myself, there must be an easier way.
I did some looking around and I found black hat seo. I’ve read a couple of articles now and it’s brought some light to my eyes. For example, there are ways that you don’t have to write your own content, or maybe I can create my own sites to create links for me.
The latest thing I’ve discovered are content databases. The concept is that you can buy or find a database or database table that contains some simple information in it, like artist songs. The idea is you take this table of information and create a simple website that creates hundreds or thousands of pages. In my first attempt, I have a website with over 19,000 pages. It took me a while (week at night) to do the first one, and I’m almost complete. Then on each page, put a link or two to your pages. If you are able to get a listing of all the pages on your other sites, you can essentially put an entire sitemap of links for several sites onto this site. In addition, you can point to your affiliate sites. Heck, I even put those sitemaps on the pages. So, now, I have links to pages that point to my affiliate programs. And, in addition, have links that point to sites, that then point to my affiliate program sites.
It’s really pretty cool. I haven’t quite mastered it yet, but I’m learning. I’ll fill you in on more as it arises.
