Ok, I’ve been told that in order to get my website noticed, I have to submit my feed to RSS engines. So, the first thing I did was go out and find listings. Wow, there are tons of listings. But, from what I’ve found, a lot of them are not correct. Some work, some don’t, some are not free, don’t exist, or are sites designed for you to click around so someone can make PPC money from you. So, below is a list of the real sites available to submit your feeds to. If one doesn’t work, please let me know. I’ll keep it updated as I go!

There are tons of sites out there that claim to work. I joined YouSayToo (free) just to get more visibile links to my site. The other day, I launched a local affiliate marketing program to see if I could get free haircuts. Yes, free haircuts, I thought it would be neat to try. Essentially, for every 2 people I sent to Rooster’s, I would get a free haircut. So, I set up a blog based on a couple of keywords and let it run.
One thing I did do was submit the RSS feed to YouSayToo. Guess what, the very next day, a link to my site was on page 1 with the company name. So, do I recommend them, uhh. yes.
Ok, I’ve been around for a while. I have recently been investigating affiliate marketing. If you’ve seen my last post on changing my Adsense ads for affiliate marketing ads, you’ll probably see that I’m a little excited. Granted, there are no quick wins in this business.
So far, it looks like there have been people doing this for years and they’re making tons of money. But, that’s not everyone. It seems as though there is a select group of individuals that have learned how to master it. It also appears as though there are a lot of individuals taking advantage of others trying to learn.
The thing that impresses me the most about affiliate marketing is the scalability. For example, if you figure out how to do it, the amount of sales is unlimited and so with the profit. And because you would have to build a site, blog whatever only once and have it bring in money, forever, it sounds great. And, you don’t have to handle shipping, customers, etc. I mean what’s to lose.
So, my mission is to figure this out. It sounds like a game. Recently, I’ve been following Shoemoney. He appears to have built a small empire doing this and has “mastered” the game. If you’re interested in his tools, feel free to visit here. This link will give you a discount on the trial offer AND the membership. You’ll actually cut the monthly membership in half. So, if you need a discount promotion code, use the link. It will save you hundreds of dollars. I have to admit, I don’t quite understand the depth of the tools yet. But, I do see their benefit. For example, finding and adding backlinks to get more links to your site is invaluable already.
He used to have a 12 week program for free, but doesn’t offer it anymore. So, if you’re looking to learn about affiliate marketing, it doesn’t look like the place to go. It may be more for advanced affiliate marketers.
I also signed up for the Wealthy Affiliate a while ago. I have to admit, it may sound cheesy, but I learned a lot from them. So, I would highly recommend their program. It is also beneficial if you own a site. The forums are the best. Granted, you can use the Digital Point forums for a tremendous amount of knowledge. A lot of the people in Wealthy Affiliate and Shoemoney use these forums. So, if you’re looking to learn, I’d suggest the “>Wealthy Affiliate program. The entire program will last about 3 months, but it was well worth it.
Ok, this story may sound familiar to you, if it does, I’m sorry. Here goes. I’m sitting on the floor in the play room with my kids. We’re playing Connect Four. My wife called out to me from the other room innocently, “Honey, have you been on my computer?” Immediately, I wondered if I had, I knew I could be in trouble. After all, as an IT professional, I tend to jump on her computer and make tweaks, updates, anything. I always feel like I’m helping out, but sometimes, I really can screw things up. Thankfully, this time, I hadn’t done anything, so I felt pretty good. So, happily, I responded with “Not at all.”
Well, my happiness was soon going to end. I hopped up and walked on in to check out her computer. As I walked up to her computer, the screen was black. I thought, this can’t be good. On the screen read the words “Drive 1 not found; Serial ATA, SATA-2 Strike f1 to continue F2.” Ugh. As with all IT people, the first reaction was to reboot. Nothing, same thing.
After a while of searching the internet, I had come to the final conclusion that her hard drive was FRIED. Great. I thought of all of my contacts, who could help me out. I knew right off that we didn’t have a backup. Me of all people, a highly trained professional with no backup.
After going to the office and asking around things didn’t get any better. I did find someone that may help. But, the usual conversation went something like this, “Yikes, I don’t think you can get it back, you may want to check around.” After more researching, I looked for data recovery services in the area. A lot are there, but prices started around $300 when you added all of the pricing in, and services could take days a week.
Well, I don’t have a great ending to this story. I came home this evening to try one more time, maybe the machine would boot up, we could back up things and proceed. I plugged in the computer and snap, a flash of light filled the air. Yep, the power blew on the computer, now it’s not doing a thing.
Well, the moral of this story is to get backup software for your Windows XP computer. The sad thing is that we had it all along. My wife loves to burn DVD’s of anything from photos to videos. And, guess what she uses, NERO. After doing some research online, guess what I found out? Nero has a backup program on it. So, we could have been backing up all along. So, we now have started using the Nero backup on all of our computers at home. And, I’d hightly recommend starting to backup your computer.
If you’re looking for a good solution, I’d recommend NERO. She loves it, and now that we know it has a backup option, I love it to.
